Birthday Celebration for Prof. Wing Hung Wong

The past few days have been really special for me and many others who were fortunate to celebrate Professor Wing Hung Wong’s birthday. He turned 70 and a symposium on Statistics and Data Science in Bioinformatics and Biomedicine was held at Stanford, where the speakers were mainly his former PhDs and Postdocs. It was a precious opportunity for me to talk to so many outstanding Wonglab alumni, who are now professors at Harvard, Berkeley, Duke, U Penn, Michigan, UCAL, UCSD, etc. I also felt very lucky to talk to many pioneers, such as Michael Waterman. As I accompanied Michael and several other professors back to hotel, I was reminded of the time when I learned the Smith-Waterman algorithm as a beginner in the field of computational biology.

The Best Football Story!

This has been a INSANE football year where the greatest players Messi and Ronaldo made a transfer to PSG and MU, repectively. I has been following news from different social media platforms these days and obviously Ronaldo was closed to sign Manchester City. It is actually not a good taste in my heart as I know many MU fans will be disppointed. I woke up in the morning and found that transfer of Ronaldo has been officially announced. I did not feel very excited at the first time until she told me that it was Manchster United! I’m still shocking how MU made it happen in such a few hours.

A Faithful Football Fan

Alongside the academic research, I devote much of my extracurricular time to watching football matches and playing football games. I am a super fan of Real Madrid. My favorite player is Cristiano Ronaldo, although he was transferred to Juventus in 2018, which made me kinda heart-broken. Ronaldo had a tough childhood and faced many difficulties during his early career, but he kept going and pursued his goal and finally becomes one of the best football players in history . His toughness, persistence and passion for his career really motivate me a lot.
